I
plan to write a series of poems on the importance of
profession/occupation/vocation in defining a person both to others and to
themselves. Many of the poems will likely be persona poems, such that each poem
has a different speaker. Some poems will also likely be ekphrastic, based on
other things that I am reading that relate. The intention is that they will not
form a cohesive narrative but, rather, a cohesive image of the idea in
question.
Christopher, this idea has great potential. You might also think about imagining the same speaker (voice/person) choosing different vocations and writing from within them -- what happens to the life, given these different roads taken?

ReplyDeleteFor some reason this project proposal made me think of Phillip Levine, and specifically the poem, "What Work Is" which is linked here: https://www.poetryfoundation.org/poems-and-poets/poems/detail/52173
ReplyDeleteif you want to read it. Good luck, hope this offers some inspiration!
