Final Project Proposal

For my final project, I want to compile a 15-page work of fiction, centered on the theme of grief.  In some of the short prose pieces that I will include in this project, I will work intertextually, in the same vein as the poets we’ve been reading this semester. By this, I mean that I will be writing some ekphrastic pieces, will sometimes use sentences or images from other writers to jumpstart my pieces or have a few pieces revolving around such a borrowed line/image. I might also try to experiment with scope, and by this, I mean that I might use a piece or two to explore how the personal and political infect each other.

  1. Queenie, this sounds like a promising project. Is there some aspect of grief or grieving that particularly interests you? Intimate, familial grief? Public grief? Both? If you plan to intersect the political (public) and personal (intimate) you may wish to decide on one event/theme for this.

  2. Hi Queenie, this project sounds great! I am wondering what ekphrastic pieces you are hoping to write on for inspiration? In terms of grief, are you interesting in mourning or nostalgia? Is there a particular motif that you will be repeating throughout the collection?

  3. Also, I know Chase Culler is writing about grief in his Capstone. He may have some interesting articles/suggestions!
